Greentree system functional and field help is integrated into your Greentree system so that you can have online access to help at any time. There are two types of functional help within Greentree:
Functional Help
This provides a comprehensive overview of every available program by module, including an outline of why and when it is appropriate to use a program, and detailed information about how to use it.
There are two ways to access the functional help:
- Launch it from within any Greentree program by pressing the
icon on the top right-hand side of the form, or by pressing <Shift> F1 anywhere on the form. The help that is presented to the screen will be relevant to the program from which it was launched. Once the help is on-screen, you will have access to all functional help, and can navigate through the help as required, before closing the help form to return to your program.
- Access it directly from the Help/Functional Help menu on Greentree's main menu toolbar. The help that is presented to the screen will position you to the beginning of the help, and you can navigate your way through the help as required.
If you have used Greentree Help before, you probably already know what you are doing! However, here are a few extra tips:
- The help file includes some information which is general to the Greentree system, but is primarily structured at a high level by module, in a tree format. A specific structure is then applied within each module. An example of how the help is structured within a module is shown in the image (right).
This general format shown applies to all modules and the major functions of the module are separated according to the way the Greentree menu is structured.
To drill down on a parent topic, and expand the tree to see sub-topics, click the "+" button next to the topic. A "+" will always appear if there is a sub-topic below the parent. Click the "-" to contract the topics back to the parent level.
- When you are located on a help topic, and want to move to the previous, next, or parent topic, use the icons on the left-hand side of the help heading to do this. In the example below, the diamond icon will take you to the parent topic, the left arrow will take you to the immediate previous topic, and the right arrow will take you to the immediate next topic.

- The help file contains multiple links, so that you can gain quick access to related help topics. Links can be graphical, or text. Graphical links include the following:

These links allow you to drill down into topic detail, or quickly move backwards or forwards to related topics. If you 'hover' over one of these graphical images, and your mouse pointer turns into a hand, this indicates that the image is a link. The image will always have some text associated with it so you know what the link is for. Simply click on the image to activate the link.
Text links are imbedded within help text, and allow you to move quickly to a help topic that is referenced in the current text. You can identify text links because they will be green and underlined. Simply click on the underlined text to activate the link.
- To find specific topics, or search for text within a topic, use the options displayed above the help content, ie:

The Contents displays the help structure, as shown in the example above.
The Index tab allows you to type in a keyword so that you can quickly move to a topic. For example, if you want to search for "AP Transaction Listing," type this into the search as your keyword, and you will be positioned to the topic. You do not need to know the exact keyword to find a topic, ie. if you type in "AP Tran" only, you will be positioned to topics with a keyword that starts with "AP Tran."
The Search tab allows you to type in any word, and the system will return a list of all topics that contain that word. This will return wider results than the Index option, but is useful if you are searching for something very specific, that may not have been assigned as a keyword within a topic.
The Favourites tab allows you to add specific topics to a list of 'favourites,' so that you can quickly re-call topics that you access on a regular basis.
Context Help
In addition to functional help, each Greentree program contains context field help. This is help that is specific to a field within a form. To access the help, simply press F1 while the cursor is positioned on the field you need help for. For example:
This example shows a portion of the IN Inventory Item Maintenance program. If you press F1 while positioned in the Sales GL Account field, the context help text associated with that field will pop up, as shown in this example.
You can press
to view all field help for the form that you are in via. Print Preview. This will display a screen-shot of the form, with each field numbered, and the help text associated with each field/number. You can then print the output if required.
You can press
to add your own notation to the help for that specific field, which can be viewed each time the help is accessed. This is useful if you want to add specific notes that are relevant to your own business or processes.
Cross Functional and Miscellaneous Help
Several features of Greentree are generic and are applicable to more than one module. In addition to the functional help by module, the Greentree help includes Cross Functional and Miscellaneous sections. These can be accessed directly via the Help/Functional Help menu, or specific topics can be launched directly from within relevant programs.
